Item No.: WDAR1084
Winery: Domaine A
Region(s): Tasmania
Appellation: --
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Description: Domaine A is set in one of the most pristine natural environments in the world. Established in 1973, the historic Stoney Vineyard is the oldest vineyard in Tasmania's Coal River Valley. Ancient soil and truly cool climate give rise to inspirational terroir founded on 200 million year old Jurassic Dolerite. Domaine A lies on a north facing slope that enjoys a temperate maritime climate and extended sunlight hours over a long, cool season. Stoney Vineyard wines are a compelling reflection of this extraordinary terroir. This wine is an assemblage of classic Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Grapes are harvested entirely by hand from estate vines dating back to 1973. Typically, veraison will happen in February and picking in mid April. It benefits from a northerly aspect and long sunshine hours combined with strict viticultural regime to produce fully ripe fruit. This wine is crafted in small batches employing traditional techniques including open vat fermentation, regular racking and hand plunging. It is matured in 100% new French oak barriques for 24-36 months. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered and rested in the cellar for two further years until ready for release.
Tasting Note: Crimson with a pale rim. Svelte and with the impression of really evolved Merlot given. Sweet and polished compared with the vintages immediately before it. A lovely wine. One of the subtlest 2004 Cabs anywhere
